Week One Check In

Week one of the 9 Weeks to 29 Challenge is done! So how did it go? Well, it went alright...not as well as I would have liked because I got stuck in San Francisco for several more hours than I planned on my trip to Southern California, and I got a nasty cold. Fun times.

So far I've taken my vitamins everyday, not had a single sip of diet coke, and tracked everything I've been eating. In that regard, I'm quite pleased with how the week went. It was a good way to notice that my diet needs some more cleaning up, and overall I feel well. I didn't get in my five workouts though, and that's what I'm most bummed about. I got in three and a half...not my best showing. But it is what it is, due to the circumstances, and I'll just have to do better this week!

I did get to ski, take a spin class, elliptical and treadmill at the gym, and go for a walk (that my half workout because it wasn't a particularly hard walk).

We had a pretty nice snow day last week too, which was nice because I got to stay home and prepare for my trip. It's also the day I took spin class because I was home already, so I didn't have to worry about commuting and traffic and not making it to class on time.

snow day!

As I mentioned before, I also traveled to California on Thursday. I'm here to visit my mom for a while (who is spending her winter away from the aforementioned snow and in the sun). I got a free week pass to the YMCA here, and already have some interesting sounding new classes picked out for Week 2! I'm not sure I have the skills for all the classes, but at least at the YMCA in Southern California, I'm far less self conscious! And California has much better weather...

so much wonderful sunshine
Now that I'm in one place for the week, I'll be better about updating about my new workouts this week...there's one on the agenda for tonight!

A Series of Unfortunate Events

I am not a graceful person. There is no getting around it. I fall. I don't pack for the correct weather. And I lock my self out. ALL THE TIME. It's just part of my being.

This weekend was no exception. I was home for a wedding and I decided to make my way to the YMCA for a swim. I haven't had a good swim in a while, and although it was probably nice enough to run outside, I just wasn't feeling it. I was sore from TRX on Wednesday and a swim sounded perfect.

So I went to the Y and signed myself in as a guest and made one mistake. I accepted the key to the adult woman's locker room. I am an adult woman, yes. But I usually just go to the family locker room. I know where it is, and I used it all the time when I went with my family, and there's nothing that says I can't. But this time, I decided I didn't need to do that. I'm an adult woman, and I can handle the big girl locker room. So I followed the signs to where the locker room is, and I even figured out how to get to the pool from there.

I had a nice swim. Nothing super special, but it wasn't terrible having not been in the pool for quite a while. It was after my swim when I went back to the locker room that I realized I needed that key for this door too. And of course I didn't have it. Luckily, the lifeguards did have a key and they saved the day, but I was fairly embarrassed. Not embarrassed enough to not take an awkward picture of myself in the locker room though!

You. Are. Welcome.

On Monday after spin class, I also thought I lost my keys. I spent a good 5 minutes on the sidewalk outside the gym rummaging through my bag trying to find them, but they were not there. So I went back into the locker room to see if I left them there. No such luck, so I dumped out my bag on the bench and there they were. Of course. Well as I packed up my bag, I turned and whacked my elbow on the corner of the locker, in which my keys were not. I now have an awesome bruise.

And on Tuesday morning, I got a flu shot in the same arm with the bruise. I'm not always super smart. Especially because Wednesdays are TRX days, and a sore arm made it pretty difficult. Clearly not my week, but I'm in good spirits about it all. Mostly because it's all pretty damn funny and does not matter in the least, but also because it snowed yesterday and I got to work from home and eat a pomegranate.

Clearly, life is good, even with the bruises.

Another Wednesday Off

This morning when I woke up, the first thing I did was call the "work is cancelled" phone line. Much to my surprise, our office was closed today! A happy surprise for sure, but since it started raining by about 10am I definitely didn't expect to have the day off.

I took the opportunity to sleep in a little, clean up my apartment, and I took a mid-day spin class.

getting sweaty and being creepy taking photos of myself
The weather has turned to such a mess. On my walk home from Trader Joe's I almost slipped and fell about forty times. Luckily I stayed on my feet the whole time. Boston looks nice and sloppy like this:

best winter wear ever. they're so sexy, you know you're jealous.
I guess I should take a shower at some point today, and maybe think about defrosting something for dinner. The hubbo didn't have a snow day this time, so he's off making the bacon, the least I can do is make him some dinner.
